OUR ANNUAL FALL CONFERENCE
As a natural outgrowth of the information provided in
Adornment, an Annual
Conference on Jewelry & Related Arts takes place each fall. In past
conferences the speakers addressed the relationship of jewelry to historic
costume and looked at jewelry within the context of the decorative arts.
It is our firm belief that jewelry is often mistakenly looked at in a
vacuum—because the history of jewelry is intimately connected with fashion,
fine art, the decorative arts, world events, and cultural life the broader
context needs to be addressed. Each year the conference strives to
explore one of these aspects.
The speakers at the conference are curators, academics, researchers and artists with
in-depth knowledge of their subjects. The goal is to have ground-breaking
information that adds to the body of jewelry scholarship presented in a way
that will be of interest to both specialists and the informed general public.
Each year one young scholar will be offered the opportunity to present their
research on a jewelry subject.
