JOIN OUR ASSOCIATION
The Association for the Study of Jewelry and Related Arts, LLC is an
organization dedicated to the advancement of jewelry studies in schools,
museums, and institutions of higher learning. It is also committed to the
dissemination of jewelry scholarship to all those interested in the history of
jewelry. ASJRA takes a broad approach to the subject, seeking to understand
and place jewelry within a variety of contexts, including from the ancient
past to present day, the decorative arts, and fashion.
To achieve its mission, ASJRA does the following:
(1) Publishes the magazine
Adornment, three times per year as a vehicle for scholarly
articles in the jewelry. The emphasis is on new research in the field and jewelry
events throughout the world.
Adornment is
in its 7th year of publishing.
(2) Organizes an annual conference as a forum for curators, academic
historians, and scholars to present new and interesting information about
jewelry. ASJRA is keen on providing young scholars an opportunity to present
their research at the conference.
(3) Sends out a monthly newsletter to its associates.
(4) Encourages the inclusion of courses in jewelry history at the college and
graduate level for both applied jewelry students and decorative arts majors.
(5) Promotes the development of study programs for jewelry design students and
jewelry history students at museums. The model program is already underway at
the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
(6) Provides a scholarship(s) for students to attend the annual conference.
(7) Maintains a website with useful information for those interested in
jewelry studies.
(8) Makes available inaccessible publications and information for jewelry
educators and researchers (this project is currently in progress and not yet
available.) Associates of ASJRA will have access to a password only section.
